NFL Draft: Injury Becoming A Concern For Da’Quan Bowers

Preliminary Mock Draft favorite DE Da’Quan Bowers has been recovering from knee surgery but the injury is starting to become a concern for NFL teams. Early reports suggested that the injury wasn’t worthy of much concern but Bowers hasn’t been able to take part in NFL Combine and wound up missing his pro day as well.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock mentions that Bowers’s lack of transparency regarding his injury is becoming a concern for NFL teams that have been considering taking him.

“I’ve gotten an awful lot of phone calls from people around the league who think that there’s more there than what was reported initially,” Mayock said. “Every team shares information from the combine, and ultimately it will come out. But I think there was maybe a little bit more than met the eye at the combine.”

From a talent perspective, this kid is a top-five player but the fact that his injury isn’t healing leaves teams with plenty of questions as the draft nears. On top of that, Bowers is a one-year wonder that came on really strong this last season so there is only a limited amount of solid game tape on him. All of these things have contributed to his decline in recent mock drafts but he could end up being a steal depending on how far he falls.
