NFL Draft Rumors: Cowboys, Colts, Andrew Luck, Luke Kuechly, Trent Richardson, Patriots

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned that he’s “impressed” with Memphis DT Dontari Poe.

I’m real impressed,” said Jones, via DallasCowboys.com. “I’m particularly impressed because he looks like a nose and has the skill and has some pass rush about him at the five-technique.”

The Cowboys were pretty active in the free agent market thus far. They’ve signed Brandon Carr and added multiple guards to their offensive line which would rule out the possiblity of them taking someone like David DeCastro or possibly Dre Kirkpatrick at #14.

Dallas could use some additional talent at defensive tackle but Poe could be off of the board by time they’re on the clock.

We have him going to the Chiefs at #11 in our most recent 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Trent Richardson

Mike Mayock of the NFL Network previously mentioned that Alabama RB Trent Richardson could drop out of the top-10 picks in this years draft but he appears to have changed his opinion of Richardson’s draft stock.

Boy was I wrong,” said Mayock, via Pro Football Talk. “He’s going in the Top 10. Let’s face it, if the two quarterbacks [Andrew Luckand Robert Griffin III] go 1-2, and the Vikings are not in the market for a tailback at No. 3 because of Adrian Peterson, this kid is going 4, 5 or 6. He’s the best tailback I’ve seen come out since the aforementioned Adrian Peterson. He brings toughness, he brings speed, he brings pass protection.”

The Browns have said that they’re probably not going to be targeting a defensive player with the #4 overall pick  so you’d have to think that they would give him strong consideration at that point. Tampa Bay would be hard pressed to pass on him at #5 as well considering that they’ve already addressed the cornerback position by signing Eric Wright.

Trent Richardson might be the best position player in this draft,” Mayock said. “I watched 150 of his carries today. I watched every catch he made on tape today. . . . I watched every pass protection I could find in about a 10-game span, and he might be the best pass-protecting running back in this draft also. So when you talk about toughness and perhaps the best positional player in the entire draft, I think if he is available at No. 5, with that offensive line, they’ve got to pull the trigger.”

Colts

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay mentioned that they’re still undecided as to who they’ll be taking with the #1 overall pick.

It’s up in the air,” Irsay told USA Today.  “We have to look at this thing completely open-minded.”

Irsay continued, “you have two outstanding athletes, two great pure passers, two guys from families that are incredible.”

Andrew Luck mentioned that the Colts haven’t informed him of their decision yet so Irsay was just responding to further questioning on this matter. Robert Griffin III has been gaining on Luck in recent weeks but the overall consensus is still in favor of Luck.

The Colts are expecting to hold a workout for Luck in the coming weeks but they’re not going to be doing the same for RGIII.

Circumstances didn’t allow us to do anything private with (Griffin) so we did the usual pro day,” said Colts GM Ryan Grigson, via ESPN.com.

This has more to do with scheduling than their preference of the two quarterbacks. Still, it can’t hurt Luck’s chance of going #1 overall.

Luke Kuechly

Goeff Mosher of the Wilmington News Journal mentions that can’t see the Eagles drafting a inside linebacker with the #15 overall pick.

“I just don’t see it happening,” writes Mosher

Boston College’s Luke Kuechly has been the obvious name connected to the Eagles in the past few months because of their lack of depth at the position. Philadelphia changed all of that with the trade for DeMeco Ryans.

We actually have him going to the Seahawks at #12 in our most recent 2012 NFL Mock Draft but that could change if they end up re-signing ILB David Hawthorne.

Josh Norman

Tony Pauline of SI.com reports that Coastal Carolina CB Josh Norman ran his forty in “mid 4.5’s” today. Pauline added that it was on wet grass which makes the numbers seem better.

Chris Steuber tweets that the Bears, Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Colts, Cowboys, Eagles, Falcons, Giants, Jaguars, Panthers, Patriots, Raiders, Rams, Redskins, Saints, Seahawks and Titans were all in attendance today.

Patriots

Patriots worked out Bethune Cookman DE/OLB Ryan Davis today.
