NFL Draft Rumors: Doug Martin, Top Safety Prospects, Bears, Jayron Hosley, Jets, Amini Silatolu

Doug Martin

Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post mentions that both the Cleveland Browns and the Dallas Cowboyshave a lot of interest” in Boise State RB Doug Martin.

It’s worth noting that he has met with both team’s in recent weeks, but would seem to make more sense for the Browns, should they end up passing on Trent Richardson. Cleveland’s #22 overall pick could be in play here, but there’s still a chance that he could be available by the time they’re on the clock again at #37.

We have Martin listed as the #25 best available player in our Top 50 Prospects List.

Top Five Safeties

Tony Pauline of TFY Draft Insider has posted the top five safeties in this year’s draft class according to the NFL team’s that he’s spoken with.

Pauline lists: Mark Barron of Alabama, Harrison Smith of Notre Dame, George Iloka of Boise State, Trent Robinson of Michigan State and Brandon Hardin of Oregon State as the best available safeties.

This is a very interesting collection of players, mainly because neither Antonio Allen of South Carolina or Markelle Martin of Oklahoma State are listed. In fact, Robinson and Hardin aren’t even listed by Rotoworld draft expert Josh Norris.

Pauline adds that Martin’s draft stocking has been falling sharply in recent weeks.

Bears

Pauline mentions that “there’s a very real chance” the Chicago Bears could take Baylor WR Kendall Wright with the #19 overall pick.

The Bears are reportedly looking for a receiver that can “line up in the slot” and are concerned about Johnny Knox’s ability to return to his previous form after suffering a serious back injury last season.

Pauline also tosses out Boise State OLB  Shea McClellin as another possibility for them.

We have Chicago taking DE Whitney Mercilius in our latest 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Jayron Hosley

Pauline notes that some NFL team’s have Virginia Tech CB Jayron Hosley listed as the “fourth or fifth” best player at the position in this year’s draft class.

Hosely hasn’t gotten as much attention as some of the other cornerback prospects in recent weeks, but he certainly no worse than a second-round talent.

We have him going to the Panthers at #40 overall in the second-round of 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Amini Silatolu

Midwestern State G Amini Silatolu continues to improve his draft as the NFL draft nears. Pauline mentions that he’s already met with the Cowboys, Vikings, Browns and Lions so far, and many believe that he’ll be “off the board by the 42nd pick.”

We have him going to Chicago at #50 overall in the second-round of 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Draft Notes

  • The Jets are expected to target some late-round safety prospects like Jerron McMillian, Trevor Coston and Chad Faulcon. (Tony Pauline)
  •  Jaguars are also interested in S Chad Faulcon as well as Miami S JoJo Nicolas.  (Tony Pauline)
  • Albion CB Chris Greenwood has visits scheduled with the Colts, Dolphins and Raiders.  (Tony Pauline)
