NFL Draft Rumors: Ryan Tannehill, Justin Blackmon, Andrew Luck, Nick Perry, Stephen Gilmore, Orson Charles

Ryan Tannehill

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that the Browns will “seriously consider” Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill if they end up missing out on Robert Griffin III.

Cabot still expects Cleveland to pursue RGIII “hard.”

The Browns have any many options as anyone in this year’s draft so they’re not going to over play their cards until the draft gets much closer or they decide on someone in free agency.

Justin Blackmon

Josina Anderson reports that Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon posted an unofficial forty time in the range of 4.45-4.50 team’s Pro Day.

This is great news for his draft stock, as there was a lot of speculation leading up to the Combine that Blackmon wasn’t going to be able to display decent speed but that doesn’t appear to be the case. This will almost certainly solidify him as a Top 10 selection and possibly even a Top 5 pick.

Andrew Luck

The Indianapolis Star writes that Andrew Luck is “overwhelming favorite” to be taken No. 1 overall by the Colts.

The report adds that Dan Orlovsky could be retained as the teams’ backup quarterback.

No surprise here as this has been believed to be the case for the last few months. There’s been some talk that Robert Griffin III could be gaining on him a bit but that seems like pure speculation at this point.

Nick Perry

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel mentioned that the Packers need to find a rush linebacker in this year’s draft and specifically mentioned USC’s Nick Perry as someone they may target with the #28 overall pick

On Wednesday’s Path to the Draft, the NFL Network panel mentioned that Perry could be slipping back into the 2nd round of the draft.

Most teams see him as a 4-3 defensive end; he’s not comfortable being a 3-4 outside linebacker,” said Bucky Brooks.

He’s definitely a second-round pick unless a team is desperate for a pass-rusher at the end of the first round,” added Charles Davis.

Charley Casserly mentioned that he sees Perry as a “more late 1 to an early 2.”

If they guys are right about Perry being a better fit in a 4-3 defensive front, you would have to cross him off of the Packers list of options at #28. They’re only going to take someone that can play standing up and Perry hasn’t proven that he’s capable of dropping into coverage.

Stephon Gilmore

ESPN’s Mel Kiper sees South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore as being “neck-and-neck” with Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick for the second cornerback off the board in this year’s draft.

I think the 40 time was the big thing” that boosted his stock,” Kiper explained, via the Detroit Free Press.

Kiper even has Gilmore being taken by the Lions at #23 in his latest mock draft.

Gilmore has shown plenty aggressive play and physicality during his time with the Gamecocks. He also showed that he has better speed that many believed during SC’s recent Pro Day so his still is certainly trending upward at this point.

Orson Charles

As for someone who is not fairing as well recently, Georgia TE Orson Charles was arrested early this morning and charged with DUI in Clarke County, GA, via redandblack.com.

Charles has done nothing but hurt his once promising draft stock in the last few weeks. He chose to sit out drills at the Combine, much to the dismay of NFL team, put together a poor workout at Georgia’s Pro Day earlier in the week and has now been arrested.

He very well could be falling back into day three at this point.
