Update: NFL Officially Increases Practice Squad From 8 To 10 Players

Update:

Tom Pelissero reports that the NFL has officially increased practice squads for NFL teams from 8 to 10 players.

  • Players will receive a minimum salary of $107,100 for season, which breaks down to $6,300 per week.
  • NFL agent Mike McCartney mentions that the changes are for 2014 and 2015 only.
  • Players can be on the practice squad for three years with 6 games constituting a year.

According to NFL agent Mike McCartney, the NFL is expected to increase practice squads for NFL teams from 8 to 10 players at some point next week.

This will in turn create an additional 64 jobs for players around the league and bring the total number of players on NFL rosters and practice squads to over 2,000.

I’m sure NFL teams will be happy about the fact that they can hold onto a few more players that they can develop in the coming years.
