Mike Garafolo of NFL Media is reporting that the NFL has issued the Seahawks a warning for violating the injury-reporting policy regarding CB Richard Sherman.
According to Garafolo, the Seahawks will not be punished for this matter, as the violation was deemed to be the result of misinterpreting the rules.
However, should there be another violation, the NFL will factor this incident into any possible punishment.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen previously reported that the Seahawks could lose a 2017 second-round pick as a result of their season-long failure to disclose Sherman’s knee injury. Mortensen mentioned that the Seahawks losing a second-round pick would be an “elevation” of the fifth-round pick they lost for reported OTA practice violations.
Although, reports later said that the Seahawks weren’t expected to be punished heavily for the matter.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll told reporters that Sherman had been playing through an MCL injury during the second half of the season, which prompted an NFL investigation.
Sherman will not require surgery for his knee injury, but Carroll later mentioned that he may have screwed up by not disclosing it during the season.
“Honestly, I didn’t realize we hadn’t revealed it,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t even remember what game it was. It was somewhere in the middle — I don’t know. He was fine about it. He didn’t miss anything. The same with [quarterback] Russell [Wilson]. He was fine about it. I don’t know how they do that, but they did.”
“I don’t know,” Carroll said. “I’m feeling like I screwed that up with not telling you that because that happened, but he was OK. So I don’t know. He never missed anything, which is probably why.“
