NFL & Le’Veon Bell Reach Settlement, Reduce Suspension To 2 Games

Update:

Jarrett Bell of USA Today is reporting that the NFL and Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell have, in fact, reached an agreement on a settlement that will reduce his three-game suspension to a two-game ban for the 2015 season.

Dan Graziano of ESPN is reporting that the NFL and Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell are negotiating a settlement that could reduce his three-game suspension.

  • According to Graziano, the possibility exists that Bell could walk away with just one or two games.
  • Albert Breer adds that there’s an acknowledgement that Bell’s suspension won’t be eliminated.
  • Bell is reportedly arguing that he’s being punished twice for same offense.

Bell’s suspension stems from him violating the league’s substance abuse policy for his August arrest on marijuana charges.

Bell and former Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount were arrested back in August after police smelled marijuana coming from their vehicle. Bell will be required to spend 15 months on probation in a first-offender’s program and will have his driver’s license suspended for 60 days.

Bell, 23, is coming off of a very impressive second year in the league in which he wound up as the NFL’s second-leading rusher.

In 2014, Bell ran for 1,361 yards on 290 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 83 catches for 854 yards receiving and 11 total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 running back in the league.
