NFL News: Lockout Has Been Lifted

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Judge Susan Nelson has decided to lift the lockout that has been imposed by NFL owners.

This news should be viewed as positive thing considering that it will most likely pave the way for the 2011 NFL season as well as free agency. NFL owners will most certainly be appealing Judge Nelson’s ruling in the coming days but there’s a good chance that the Appeals Court will issue their ruling within the next two weeks.

The fact that we’ll know whether or not free agency will begin in the next few weeks is a welcomed from end of the NFL world.

The owners will have a hard to getting the ruling lifted but that’s not to say that it’s impossible as the appellate judges are considered to be more conservative than those who preside over district courts.

This ruling will not force the two sides to come to a longterm agreement but it should give the players some much needed leverage in negotiations. There is still plenty of work to be done but this should at least give us NFL fans something to look forward to at some point in the coming months. Fingers crossed.
