NFL News: Raiders Give Richard Seymour An Extension

Jim Trotter of SI.com is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have reached an agreement with Richard Seymour to extend the length of his current deal by two-years which will include $22.5 million inĀ guarantees. The deal will make Seymour the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL in terms of salary per year.

Leading up to today the general consensus was that Oakland was prepared to franchise Seymour for 2011 but both the Raiders and Seymour have made it known that they would like to get a deal done that would allow Seymour to retire as a Raider.

This news opens the door the team place their franchise tag on TE Zach Miller who has also been rumored as a possible target for the designation. Considering that the franchise tag deadline is tomorrow, I’m sure that we’ll hear more regarding this situation by the end of the day or early tomorrow.
