NFL News: Redskins Release Clinton Portis

The first official confirmation that the Redskins have released Clinton Portis has just come across the twitter wire, per Jason La Canfora.

Releasing Portis will save the Redskins $25 million over the next three years. When you hear that number, Washington’s decision makes plenty of sense form their standpoint; then pair that with the fact that Portis will be 30 years old come September and it’s a no brainer. The Redskins will have Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams heading forward but they are likely to bring another veteran player before the season starts.

As for Portis, he finds himself in the dreaded veteran running back market along with several others plays that all have plenty of mileage which generally equates to small salaries and little playing time. Good luck to him.
