NFL News: Vikings Make An Offer, Sidney Rice Turns It Down

Sidney Rice’s agent Drew Rosenhaus informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Rice will be turning down the Vikings offer and plans on exploring the free agent market.

There’s still a chance that Minnesota could retain Rice depending on what happens with the new restricted free agent requirements but as of none it appears that Rice is likely to be moving on.

Judd Zulgad of the Minnepolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings have offered Sidney Rice a longterm contract.

Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier mentioned that the team had already made Rice an offer at the NFL Combine but it wasn’t exactly clear whether they had offered him a restricted-free agent tender or a long term deal.

Zulgad cities a league source who explained that the team intends on the deal being a longterm contract rather than a one-year tender.

Minnesota will only have a few more days to get a deal done before all NFL teams are locked out from renegotiating with their soon to be free agent players.

Earlier in the week it was reported that Rice is still dealing with pain in his surgically repaired hip but that hasn’t been much of a story in recent days. The Vikings will need Rice in the years to come but they’ll need him to be back to his 2009 form more, if they intend on making the quarterback transition as smooth as possible.
