NFL News: Wade Phillips Hired By Houston

Bob Allen of ABC 13 in Houston reported earlier today that the Houston Texans will in fact bring in former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips to revamp one of the NFL worst defenses.

While this is a tall task, Phillips has been a very successful defensive coordinator throughout his career but it would be a mistake to expect miracles.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle tweets that Phillips intends to implement a 3-4 defense and show Mario Williams the same way that he used Bruce Smith while in Buffalo.

While this appears to be a good plan for the future of the Texans defense, the impending lockout could limit the teams ability to bring in players that will fit the new defensive scheme. If a deal isn’t reached early on it could cost Houston the time that’s necessary to get the players acclimated to the new system.
