NFL Notes: Josh McDaniels, 49ers, Bengals, Buccaneers, & Steelers

Josh McDaniels

  • Ed Werder of ESPN believes that Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is willing to leave New England, but only for the right head-coaching position.

49ers

  • Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers have completed their first round of head coach interviews, but could still request to meet Mike Shanahan, Bears OC Adam Gase, or Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.
  • Barrows notes that the 49ers did not request interviews with any of the three because the team met with each candidate during last season’s coaching search.
  • According to Barrows, the team has inquired on Panthers OC Mike Shula, but he has refused to meet with teams while Carolina is in the playoffs.

Bengals

  • Bengals QB Andy Dalton (thumb) has officially been ruled out of Saturday’s playoff game.

Buccaneers

  • Joel Corry mentions that Buccaneers impending free agent RB Doug Martin, who was announced as a first-team All-Pro selection on Friday, is the least likely to capitalize on his 2015 success.
  • Corry mentions that there’s really no need to break the bank for a running back in free agency.

Steelers

  • Steelers have ruled out RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) from Saturday’s playoff game.
