NFL Notes: Draft, Browns, Cardinals, Eagles & Giants

Draft

  • Tony Pauline of Draft Insider reports that the Panthers and Saints are “very high” on Alabama RB Kenyan Drake.
  • According to Pauline, teams are comparing Drake to Reggie Bush due to his burst and explosiveness.
  • Mary Kay Cabot writes that the Browns have conducted a followup interview with North Dakota QB Carson Wentz on Tuesday.
  • In addition, Jeff McLane mentions that the Eagles have been impressed with Wentz’s performance during the Senior Bowl practices.

Browns

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said he is unsure whether suspended WR Josh Gordon will be reinstated by the NFL.

We don’t know if Josh Gordon will be reinstated or not,” said Haslam, via Nate Ulrich. “If he is reinstated, we’ll deal with that at proper time.

  • Haslam said that DC Ray Horton is scheduled to interview “three of four” candidates on Monday for their a linebackers coach position. (Nate Ulrich)

While Browns C Alex Mack can opt out of his contract for next season, he admits that he likes what he has seen from the Browns front office this offseason.

I mean, it was good to leave the season, take some time off and let that all shake out,” Mack said, via Around The NFL. “Really happy they got everything handled early and they found their guy. They’re getting a staff together quickly. It’s going in the right direction.”

Mack, 30, signed a five-year, $42 million contract with $26 million guaranteed in 2014. He stands to make a base salary of $8 million for the 2016 season, but also has an opt out clause in his contract should he decide against staying with Cleveland.

We will provide more information regarding Mack and the Browns as the news becomes available.

Cardinals

Eagles

Eagles DE Fletcher Cox said he would like to return to Philadelphia with a long-term contract.

I wanna be there, that’s where I want to be — for the long haul,” Cox said, via Around The NFL. “I think the team wants me there, everyone wants me there from the owner all the way down.”

Ed Kracz of the Intelligencer reported on Tuesday that the Eagles have already began extension discussions with Cox, so it is clear to see there is mutual interest between the two.

We will provide more information regarding Cox and the Eagles as the news becomes available.

Giants

  • Adam Caplan reports the Giants are expected to sign Patriots LB coach Patrick Graham as their next defensive line coach.
