NFL Notes: Colin Kaepernick, Eagles, Lions, & Seahawks

Colin Kaepernick

Former 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh said that he believes QB Colin Kaepernick will “flourish

“Colin will flourish, there’s no question in my mind about that,” Harbaugh told Tim Kawakami on the TK Show, via CSN Bay Area. “He’s too great of a talent. He is a competitior at the very highest level, very similar to the two quarterbacks you’re going to watch in the Super Bowl in Cam Newton and Peyton Manning. There’s ups and downs in football, that’s football – welcome to it, welcome to the game of football.

Colin will flourish, I have no doubt about that,” Harbaugh added.

Eagles

Adam Schefter reiterates that the Eagles will not use franchise tag on QB Sam Bradford and are expected to inquire about adding QB Nick Foles.

  • Adam Caplan says the Eagles have contract decisions looming, specifically LB DeMeco Ryans who’s $2.5 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed on March 11th.

Lions

Kyle Meinke spoke with Lions WR Golden Tate about teammate WR Calvin Johnson‘s decision to retire at the age of 30, despite being one of the leagues best and still playing at a high-level.

It’s weird. When the rumors came out he was going to leave Detroit, I didn’t know it was because of health reasons. I thought it might have been a money thing, or his contract was up, is what I initially thought. Because he showed up to work as the same Calvin that we’ve always known. Worked hard, busted his tail when he’s out there, makes some incredible catches.”

Tate added “his body just isn’t holding up. With his body type, and how he plays the game, he plays at a high level all the time for a bunch of years.

Seahawks

  • Rand Getlin reports that if/when Marshawn Lynch officially retires, the Seahawks could pursue roughly $5 million of the $7.5 million signing bonus he received last March.
  • Getlin adds that if Lynch were to wait to get released and then retire, Seattle wouldn’t be able to pursue that money.
