NFL Notes: 49ers, Bears, Raiders, Vikings & Michael Robinson

Michael Robinson

  • Free agent FB Michael Robinson recently mentioned that his NFL career has most likely come to an end.

“I still love Sundays,” Robinson said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “Monday through Saturday gets difficult.”

Robinson, 31, hasn’t found any reported interest this offseason and has hinted that he could call it a career a few months ago. He played eight snaps during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win over the Broncos, so it looks like he could go out on top.

Robinson is expected to pursue opportunities in sports media.

49ers

Maiocco points that San Francisco set a precedent with RB Frank Gore a few years ago when they showed a willingness to enter extension talks with Gore’s reps only after he reported to training camp.

The 49ers could fine Davis and Boone close $70,000 in fines just for missing the team’s mandatory minicamp.

Bears

  • HC Marc Trestman told reporters Thursday that he expects QB Jimmy Clausen to be one of their quarterbacks this year.

“We’re going through the process today of trying to work a little bit with our roster,” Trestman said, via Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “I think that Jimmy has competed, and done a good job for the time that he’s been here. I expect that he’ll be with us.”

It’s worth mentioning that Jordan Palmerappeared to struggle” during minicamp, according to Wright.

Raiders

  • Raiders OC Greg Olsen mentioned on Wednesday that he believes 2013 sixth-round pick Latavius Murray has “the biggest upside” of any of their running backs.

“We’re looking for big things from Latavius Murray right now, coming off the foot injury,” said Olsen, via Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area. “He’s shown, to me, the biggest upside right now in what we’ve seen thus far, if he can stay healthy.

It’s very interesting to hear this kind of praise for the second-year running back given that veterans Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden looked to be in position to handle most of the workload this season.

  • HC Dennis Allen told reporters on Thursday that second-round pick QB Derek Carr will enter training camp as the team’s No. 2 quarterback, per Paul Gutierrez.

Vikings

  • The Vikings have reportedly been impressed with rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater and his rate of improvement thus far. (Albert Breer)
