NFL Notes: 49ers, Bills, Eagles, Falcons, & Rams

49ers

49ers HC Chip Kelly said the team has not discussed whether QB Colin Kaepernick will continue to start or not.

“We haven’t had any discussions about anything,” Kelly said, via Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “It was just my decision to make a move to see if we could get a spark and see where we were.

However, Kelly went on to say that “no permanent decisions” were made when benching Kaepernick in favour of Blaine Gabbert during Week 13.

“At that point in the game, we’re down a couple of scores (18 points) and, obviously, we have to throw it a ton. So we just wanted to see if we could get a spark for our team. There were no permanent decisions or anything like that.”

Bills

• Mike Rodak of ESPN notes that the Bills could void the $30.75 million in guarantees owned to QB Tyrod Taylor next March by releasing him this offseason.
• Rodak points to Taylor’s second-half struggles against the Raiders during Week 13 as an indication of the financial risk Buffalo would be taking by keeping him at that price.
• For what it’s worth, Bills HC Rex Ryan said he is “comfortable” in Taylor’s abilities, adding: “Look, let’s just let this play out. We feel pretty comfortable with Tyrod. There’s a lot of factors that go into everything.”

Eagles

Eagles HC Doug Pederson told reporters on Monday that he’s confident his job is not at risk and the front office has made that clear to him.

“From the both of them, it’s been 100 percent support on everything,” said Pederson, via Tim McManus of ESPN. “I meet with Jeffery and Howie every week and we discuss a lot of things and go over a lot of things, and every week it’s very positive. I just don’t think personally you can base a guy’s career on one season. I think you’ve got to give it time to develop. We’ve got a rookie quarterback. We’ve got to have time to develop this quarterback. It just doesn’t happen overnight. So by no means have they expressed anything to me [as far as a standard by which they’re judging him in ’16], and it’s been positive and very supportive.”

Falcons

• Falcons WR Julio Jones suffered a turf toe injury and LT Jake Matthews sustained a sprained left ankle during Week 13. (Adam Schefter)

Rams

• Jason Cole of B/R reports that although the Rams agreed to a two-year extension with HC Jeff Fisher, it is not assured that he will return next year if the team continues their poor performance.
• Cole mentions that Fisher’s extension was agreed upon during the offseason but it was never announced. On top of that, Cole says that Fisher is “more than likely” to return after he traded up to draft QB Jared Goff.
• Cole adds that Los Angeles’ interest in the Rams has faded so quickly that it could put Fisher’s job in jeopardy.
