• Tim Kawakami believes that 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert is the “enormous favorite” to be the team’s Week 1 starter.
• Kawakami mentions that 49ers executive Jed York and GM Trent Baalke want Gabbert to start.

Broncos

• The Broncos announced QB Mark Sanchez will start Thursday’s preseason game and Trevor Siemian will begin the second quarter, while Paxton Lynch will appear for the entire second half.

Chargers

• Michael Gehlken reports Chargers WR Stevie Johnson underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and his timetable of recovery has yet to be determined.

Titans

• Titans HC Mike Mularkey said Quinton Spain is “still holding his own” at first team left guard. (John Glennon)
