NFL Notes: 49ers, Browns, Dolphins, & Steelers

49ers

• Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area doesn’t see the 49ers trading up for Alabama WR Amari Cooper in this year’s draft, given that the could use some more depth at other positions.
• Maiocco points out that San Francisco tried to trade up for Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. last year.
• As for signing more free agents, Maiocco believes the 49ers will be reluctant to add anyone that could cost them compensatory pick next year.
• However, Maiocco adds that the 49ers could sign someone like WR Hakeem Nicks or LB Lance Briggs after May 12, which is when players will no longer count against team’s compensatory picks.
• According to Maiocco, San Francisco is hoping WR Michael Crabtree signs elsewhere, which would likely result in them receive a compensatory pick next year.

Browns

• Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns QB Johnny Manziel is likely to be discharged soon, possibly as early as next week.

Dolphins

• Omar Kelly reports that the Dolphins hosted Hobart OL Ali Marpet for a visit last week.

Steelers

• Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that Shamarko Thomas is likely to replace Troy Polamalu at safety next year.
• Bouchette expects the Steelers to bolster their safety depth in the draft.
