NFL Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Giants, Titans

49ers

49ers GM John Lynch said the team believes that first-round LB Reuben Foster‘s shoulder injury is “healing very well” and he is “ahead of schedule” with his recovery.

So, I can’t tell you what everybody else saw. What we saw was a guy who had rotator-cuff surgery. It’s healing very well,” said Lynch, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Lynch added that Foster is “ahead of schedule” with his recovery from surgery and that he anticipates Foster being fully recovered in time for training camp.

I think we all know, when you watch Reuben Foster, he’s one of these freakish athletes,” Lynch said. “Those guys tend to heal a little faster. He’s ahead of schedule, so our biggest deal with Reuben’s going to be holding him back because (of) his persona. And that’s one thing that drew me to him. This guy loves football. He wants to be on the field right now.

We had our rookie minicamp and he was trying to pull the okiedoke and run out there with the guys, and we’re just going to kind of have to keep the reigns on him. But come training camp, we anticipate him being full go. And I can’t wait to see it.

Cardinals

  • Kent Somers reports that Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington, who was recently reinstated from suspension, met with team officials on Monday.
  • Somers adds that the specifics of Monday’s meeting are unknown and his status with the team remains unchanged at this time. Somers also mentions that he does not know which Cardinals officials were present at the meeting with Washington.
  • One issue for Washington and the Cardinals is the fact that he’s owed $2.9 million for the 2017 season and Somers can’t see Arizona or any other team willing to pay him that kind of money.
  • With this in mind, the Cardinals could attempt to renegotiate his contract or just terminate the deal altogether and allow him to test the open market.

Giants

  • Recently acquired Giants QB Geno Smith said he is “100 percent” recovered from his ACL injury and thinks he could be medically cleared right now if needed. (Jordan Raanan)
  • Giants LB J.T. Thomas also said he is completely recovered from his knee injury and says he will “definitely” be ready for the start of training camp. (Ralph Vacchiano)
  • Giants FS Darian Thompson (foot) said he’s “pretty close” to going full-speed and that he’s waiting to be medically cleared. Thompson added that he is not in a rush back: “We have plenty of time.” (Dan Duggan)

Titans

Titans GM Jon Robinson said that first-round CB Adoree’ Jackson will play as a cornerback, return specialist, and could eventually play on offense.

I think primarily his role will be to come in here and learn to play corner,” Robinson said, via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. “He’s played outside corner, he’s played inside corner. He’ll work at both of those spots and then work as one of our returners back there, both punt and kickoff return.”

Robinson went on to say that once Jackson has a “good grasp” of the defense, the team could “sprinkle him in on offense.”

And I would say once he picks up that, has a good grasp of that to what degree, we can sprinkle him in on offense. We’re not closing the door on that, but I would say that’s probably not the primary role for him now. The first priority will be to help us on defense and in the return game.”
