NFL Notes: 49ers, Chargers, Ravens, & Titans

49ers

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that if the 49ers decide at some point in time that Colin Kaepernick is no longer their answer at quarterback, it would be smart for them to take a similar approach to what the Redskins are doing with Robert Griffin III.

Kaepernick’s contract includes over $31 million that’s guaranteed for injury only, which means a career-ending injury would leave San Francisco on the hook for this sum.

However, according to Florio, the agreement between the 49ers and Kaepernick actually included an insurance policy that would pay the 49ers $20 million in the event of a career-ending injury. That still leaves $11 million that San Francisco would be responsible for.

Chargers

Mark Fabiani announced that the Chargers plan to to file for relocation to Los Angeles when the league opens the application window in January.

At this point yes, because there’s no sign that the other team or teams are not going to file,” Fabiani told The Mighty 1090 AM radio show, via ESPN.com. “Everyone assumes all three teams will file, and in that case we can’t afford to lose our market in Los Angeles and Orange County.

“As you know, 25 percent of our season-ticket business comes from those markets. So we have to be able to protect those markets. That’s why as a last resort we went out and created the certain option we now have in Los Angeles. And if everything is moving ahead, we’re not going to be standing on the sidelines and watching everything go by. We’ve got to stay in the game to protect the future of the franchise.

Ravens

Titans

  • Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com writes that he expects rookie RB David Cobb to be added to the Titans’ roster once healthy.
  • However, Wyatt believes RB Terrance West will likely be cut once Cobb returns to the team, even though they traded for West at the start of the season.
