NFL Notes: 49ers, Eagles, Jaguars & Vikings

49ers

  • Grant Cohn of the Press Democrat writes that “Colin Kaepernick is the front-runner to be the Niners’ starting quarterback if he’s healthy and wants the job.”
  • Cohn points to Blaine Gabbert’s accuracy issue, which he attributes to his arm slot and not aligning his lower body with his target, as one of the main reasons Kaepernick should be considered the favorite to open the season as the 49ers’ starter.

Eagles

Newly acquired WR Dorial Green-Beckham mentioned that he’s looking forward to a fresh start with the Eagles.

“I think this will be a fresh start, new start, new teammates, new family, great family atmosphere,” said Green-Beckham, via Zach Berman of Philly.com. “I feel like this is a brand new start.

Green-Beckham added he showed up to the Titans’ training camp “in great condition” and did “everything I needed to do” before he was traded.

Jaguars

Jaguars owner Shad Khan tells the Florida Times-Union that his expectations in 2016 is that the team will come down and win.

“My expectations are we get together and we win,” Khan said. “I think it is very simple and it’s no different than every player that is on the team, every coach that is on the team. We want to win and we have a lot of pieces in place now that will help us do it.”

Vikings

  • Ben Goessling, citing two league sources, reports that Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater was held out of Thursday’s preseason game with a sore shoulder.
  • However, had it been a regular season game, Goessling says that Bridgewater likely would have suited up. Instead, HC Mike Zimmer made a late decision to hold Bridgewater out and start Shaun Hill.
