NFL Notes: 49ers, Falcons, Jets, Seahawks, Steelers

49ers

  • Alex Marvez reports that Falcons assistant special teams coach Eric Sutulovich has interviewed for the 49ers’ special teams coach position.

Falcons

  • Vaughn McClure reports that Jerome Henderson is staying with the Falcons as their defensive passing game coordinator, despite interviewing with the 49ers for their defensive coordinator position.

Jets

Darryl Slater of NJ.com takes a look at some possible roster cuts for the Jets and offers odds of them returning for the 2017 season.

  • Salter gives veteran C Nick Mangold a “60 percent” chance of being cut this offseason. Mangold was limited to playing just eight games last year and will be in the final year of his contract. Cutting him now would free up $9.075 million of available cap space.
  • Salter also considers the likelihood of the Jets releasing WR Brandon Marshall to be 60 percent. Like Mangold, Marshall is an easy source of cap space ($7.5 million) and will be entering the final year of his contract. Slater doesn’t rule out a potential trade involving Marshall, but says the Jets would get a lot in return for him.
  • According to Slater, there’s a “75 percent” chance of the Jets releasing CB Darrelle Revis this offseason. He does, however, admit that Revis could accept a pay cut and transition to safety, but he still doesn’t see this happening.
  • In regards to LT Ryan Clady, Slater puts the odds of his release at 99 percent, but adds that New York could try to bring him back on a more reasonable contract.

Seahawks

Steelers

  • Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports recently reported that the Steelers are expected to open contract talks with WR Antonio Brown and LB Lawrence Timmons this week. (NFLTR)
  • However, La Canfora adds that he wouldn’t expect talks with either Timmons or Brown to be expedited and negotiations will take some time.
  • According to La Canfora, locking up free agent RB Le’Veon Bell will be the Steelers’ “initial push.
