NFL Notes: Aaron Rodgers, Cardinals, Giants

Aaron Rodgers

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers told Alex Flanagan of NFL Media that he’s entering the “back nine” of his career.

I think I’m on the back nine of my career,” Rodgers said. “But I think I’m just kind of starting the back nine. This will be my 10th year starting, I got to sit for three years. So I’m not the typical 13-year pro, having the opportunity to sit for three years and not take the wear and tear to learn the game.

Rodgers added that he’s hoping to finish out his career in Green Bay.

“I think we all have numbers,” Rodgers said. “When I was a young player, I remember thinking as I looked at some of the older guys, if I got to five that’d be cool, or eight, or anything after 10 would be amazing. For me, I think the longevity is tied to being a Green Bay Packer. I’d like to finish my career in Green Bay.”

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians believes the team’s struggles last year can be attributed to their disappointing Week 1 loss to the Patriots.

“I think the biggest reason was losing the opener on Sunday Night Football to the Patriots on that missed field goal,” Arians said during an interview with Pro Football Talk. “That took a lot of swagger out of our football team, then we came back and lost to the Rams in another close game. We didn’t win the close games we had won in the past but it all goes back to that first one.”

Giants

The Giants DT Jarron Jones mentioned that the team is attempting to convert him to offensive tackle this summer.

“Right before the end of OTA’s, the coaching staff pulled me into the office and said they wanted me to switch. The next day I was taking snaps at offensive tackle,” Jones explained, via Andy Lipari of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. “If you get that vote of confidence to switch positions, I’ll take it.

“They see a better fit. They want to take advantage of my size. We have a really good defensive line and in all honesty making the team on defense was pretty slim. Our offensive line is good but they could use a couple more guys. They … said it could pay big dividends for me.”
