NFL Notes: Adrian Peterson, Jim Schwartz, & Dolphins

Adrian Peterson

Jason Cole received an “ominous” text message from Adrian Peterson‘s agent, Ben Dogra, that sounds like he plans to holdout

“He is very very strong … he’s like [Darrelle] Revis,” Dogra’s text read, according to Cole.

Jim Schwartz

  • Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that former Lions head coach and Bills DC Jim Schwartz has been hired by the NFL and will serve as a consultant to the league’s officiating department for the 2015 season.
  • According to Marvez, Schwartz’s main role will be to help provide a coach’s perspective with some of the decisions made by the officiating office.

Dolphins

  • According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, CB Jamar Taylor enters offseason workouts as the “front-runner” for the cornerback job opposite to Brent Grimes. However, Zack Bowman and Will Davis could challenge Taylor for the job.
  • Jackson mentions that Dolphins HC Joe Philbin views free-agent addition Brice McCain as a slot cornerback.
  • Billy Turner is considered the “front runner” for the Dolphins’ right guard job.
  • Meanwhile Dallas Thomas and rookie Jamil Douglas will likely compete for the left guard position.
  • Jackson writes that there’s a chance Miami could elect to start Chris McCain at strong-side linebacker or go with veteran Kelvin Sheppard at the position.
  • Rookie RB Jay Ajayi is considered to be “front-runner” to back up Lamar Miller, but Jackson doesn’t rule out the possibility that Ajayi could eventually challenge Miller for a starting job.
