NFL Notes: Adrian Peterson, John Skelton, Patriots, & Steelers

Adrian Peterson

Jason Cole, citing sources from both sides of the Adrian Peterson case, reports that the NFL is trying to stall his legal case in order to increase the Vikings leverage this offseason.

Peterson, of course, is hoping for a quick resolution that would allow him to be reinstated before March 10, which happens to be the first day of free agency. This is also the first point in which players can be traded.

According to Cole, the NFL’s argument is that this is a labor matter and the court doesn’t have jurisdiction over this type of case based on the collective bargaining agreement.

Meanwhile, NFLPA’s case is centered around Peterson exhausting all of his means and is being punished unduly under a new policy that shouldn’t have anything to do with his penalty.

John Skelton

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Montreal Alouettes have signed former NFL QB John Skelton to a two-year contract.

Patriots

Steelers

Paula Reed Ward of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell was admitted into a court program Friday morning that will lead to the marijuana charges he’s facing to be dismissed later this summer, if completed.

Bell could face a one- or two-game suspension as a first-time offender.

  • Steelers named Jerry Olsavsky their inside linebackers coach and Joey Porter as outside linebackers coach.

  1. Bell facing marijuana charges? Hmmm seems like the Fantasy player of the year should have been Andrew Luck. He was on top of the listing all year anyway.
