NFL Notes: Adrian Peterson, Robert Griffin III, & Bills

Adrian Peterson

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of Adrian Peterson‘s new contract, reports that the agreement includes both an escalator and a de-escalator for 2016.

According to Florio, Peterson will earn another another $1 million in 2016 salary if he rushes for at least 1,750 yards and the team wins a divisional-round playoff game.

Should Peterson record 1,900 yards rushing and the Vikings win the Super Bowl, he would make another $2 million in salary for the 2016 season.

However, if Peterson is unable to post 1,550 yards rushing or the Vikings fail to win a playoff game, his salary would drop by $1 million. Beyond that, Peterson could see a decrease of $2 million in terms of his roster bonus if he is unable to rush for 1,350 yards or the Vikings miss the playoffs all together.

Robert Griffin III

An offensive coach told Mike Sando of ESPN.com that Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is “done” as an effective NFL quarterback now that he’s lost some of his speed after the leg injury he sustained a few years ago.

There’s no coming back,” the coach said. of Griffin “He is done. The reason is, the injury slowed his legs, and his ego will not allow him to hit rock bottom and actually grind his way back up the right way.”

A personnel director added that he was surprised Washington elected to pick up his fifth-year option, considering that he viewed it as an “easy decision” to pass on.

“To get better in this league, you have to have a degree of humility,” the personnel director said. “… When (Griffin) looks in the mirror, he is seeing things that everybody else is not seeing. That is why I was surprised when they gave him the fifth-year (option) and said it was an easy decision.”

Bills

  • Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports that a decision from the Bills regarding OC Aaron Kromer is expected to be coming at some point in the near future.
  • Carucci pegs Kurt Anderson as the “top replacement” if Buffalo were to fire Kromer following his arrest.
  • A source tells Carucci that if the Bills were to dismiss Kromer, they would likely fire him with cause, which would allow them to not pay him his salary that is believed to be slightly more than $1 million annually.
  • However, Kromer then could always file a grievance in the matter.
