NFL Notes: Alshon Jeffery, Buccaneers, Eagles, Packers & Patriots

Alshon Jeffery

  • Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune finds it difficult to believe the Bears would trade WR Alshon Jeffery, despite the recent reports that the Eagles are interested in him.
  • Biggs points to a number of issues including: compensation, the fact that Jeffery can’t sign an extension until next year, franchising him again in 2017 would cost around $17.5 million, and the Bears limited depth at receiver.

Buccaneers

  • Greg Auman expects the Buccaneers to be “very cautious” with RB Doug Martin and his return from a hamstring injury.
  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Buccaneers worked out FB Will Ratelle on Tuesday.

Eagles

Eagles HC Doug Pederson denied reports that they’re currently in the trade market for a receiver on Wednesday.

I’m happy with the guys we have,” Pederson said, per Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

Pederson added that every team is looking at every position, but the Eagles aren’t doing so “at this time,” per Jeff McLane.

The Eagles have been linked to 49ers WR Torrey Smith and Bears WR Alshon Jeffery in recent days.

Packers

  • According to Ian Rapoport, tests on Packers RB Don Jackson’s left hand did not show a break. Swelling in his hand is down and as long as he can grip a ball, Jackson could play Sunday.

Patriots

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Patriots RB Dion Lewis is expected back at practice this week, which will start his 21-day window to be activated. Rapoport adds that Lewis is “doing well” in his return from a knee injury.
