NFL Notes: Alshon Jeffery, Dolphins, Panthers, Rams, Steelers

Alshon Jeffery

Free agent WR Alshon Jeffery tells Josina Anderson that he doesn’t have any hard feeling for the Bears, but he’s looking forward to his next chapter.

“I don’t have any hard feeling towards the Bears; it’s all love,” Jeffery said. “Whatever the next chapter is, I’m ready for it. I’m looking at the teams that obviously need a wide receiver, but also put me in the best situation to win a championship right now….I also want to see what other free agents may be attracted to the same teams I’ll be looking at, that can help that goal.

Dolphins

  • Dolphins VP Mike Tannenbaum mentioned that he expects QB Ryan Tannehill to be available for offseason workouts, despite his knee injury: “He’s ready to go for our off-season program…He’s been cleared, he’s ready to go.” (Sirius XM NFL Radio)
  • Dolphins GM Chris Grier said he’s optimistic about getting an extension in place for S Reshad Jones. (Adam Beasley)
  • Dolphins HC Adam Gase said of free agent WR Kenny Stills: “One day I feel good about it. One day I feel like crap about it. I hate free agency.” (Adam Jahns)
  • Regarding their approach to free agency, Gase said: “We don’t want to be big spenders.” (Adam Beasley)

Panthers

  • Panthers HC Ron Rivera points to their offensive line, particularly the tackle position, as a priority for them in free agency. (David Newton)
  • Rivera announced that they’ve hired Jerricho Cotchery as their assistant wide receivers coach. (Joe Person)

Rams

  • Rams GM Les Snead indicated that their plans for CB Trumaine Johnson is to have him play out the year under the franchise tag and see how he fits in Wade Phillips‘ defensive system before discussing a long-term deal. (Gregg Rosenthal)
  •  Snead said that Todd Gurley‘s disappointing 2016 season was a “definitely a sophomore slump.” (Marc Sessler)
  • Snead confirmed that free agent WR Kenny Britt will test the open market. (Joe Curley)
  • In regards to a possible extension for DT Aaron Donald, Snead said: “It’s definitely coming.” (Alden Gonzalez)
  • Snead said that a potential position change for Greg Robinson is a consideration. (Myles Simmons)

Steelers

  • Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said of their offseason plans: “We want to continue to add to the defense, because the offense is mostly coming back.” (Sirius XM NFL Radio)
  • In regards to Ben Roethlisberger‘s future, Colbert said: “We have to be realistic about it, especially when he discusses it publicly. He will be our QB until he officially declares he’s retired.” (Sirius XM NFL Radio)
