NFL Notes: Aqib Talib, Broncos, Colts, Steelers

Aqib Talib

  • The lawyer for Broncos CB Aqib Talib notified police in a letter that his client did, in fact, accidentally shoot himself in the leg last year, according to Mike Klis.
  • Klis says that Dallas police are still determining whether the self-inflicted gunshot occurred at a nightclub or a nearby park.
  • However, the NFL informed Klis in an email today they are continuing to review Talib’s shooting, despite the fact he was never charged in the matter.
  • Even so, Klis says commissioner Roger Goodell could still find Talib in violation of the league’s personal conduct policy and hand down a suspension.

Broncos

Broncos CEO Joe Ellis mentioned that he plans to sign VP of football operations John Elway to a new contract and have already had some early conversations dating back to last year.

“Oh yeah, that’s my plan, that’s my plan for sure,” Ellis said, via Rich Kurtzman of USA Today. “We’ve had some early conversations dating back to October, November, December, and now here we are in January. We’re going to continue those. I’m optimistic that we’ll get something done.”

Colts

  • Stephen Holder says that while the Colts are moving quickly with their GM interviews, the team still isn’t expected to have a decision regarding who they’ll hire anytime soon.
  • An NFL source tells Holder that the Colts are still expected to schedule follow-up interviews, presumably with the finalists. However, it remains to be seen which of the six candidates will get second interviews for the job.

Steelers

  • Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is now looking into whether the Steelers failed to list RB Le’Veon Bell properly on injury report for last week’s AFC Championship game.
  • Steelers HC Mike Tomlin admitted that he knew about Bell’s groin injury before he re-injured it during last weekend’s game.
  • Pittsburgh never listed Bell on their injury report.
