NFL Notes: Arthur Jones, Saints, Steelers

Arthur Jones

Saints

Saints WR Willie Snead confirmed that he won’t hold out of training camp for a new contract, despite the fact that he’s yet to sign his exclusive rights tender.

No holdout,” Snead said in a text message to Josh Katzenstein of Nola.com. “I’ll be on the practice field Thursday.”

This confirms comments from Saints HC Sean Payton, who said he expected Snead to be in attendance once camp is under way.

No, I don’t see that happening at all,” Payton said of a potential holdout. “It’d be different — guys might not show up for OTAs, but with the fine structure set the way it is now. I can’t imagine someone showing up like Willie has. Willie’s been fantastic showing up for OTAs and minicamp, and then holding out of training camp? No, I don’t see that. I think it’s an old term.”

Steelers

Steelers WR Antonio Brown told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that he had a “top secret” two-hour phone conversation with franchise RB Le’Veon Bell on Saturday night.

Brown said he wanted to explain to be Bell just how much they value his playmaking.

We need him. I need him,” Brown said. “If we’re going to do what we desire to do, we need every guy a part of the organization in a helmet to be there committed to the cause. He’s a special piece. Obviously, we know what he brings to the team, his dimension playing football, but he’s a special individual. I pray that we have him there.
