NFL Notes: Bears, Bills, Patriots, Raiders, & Redskins

Bears

Bears QB Jay Cutler says he wouldn’t trade RB Matt Forte for anybody.

“I wouldn’t trade him for anybody else,” Cutler said of Forte, via ChicagoBears.com. “He’s a three-down back. He does so much protection-wise. He does so much in the passing game. You can line him up in all different scenarios, all different sets. He gets the job done. He’s kind of a security blanket for us.”

Bills

  • According to CBS announcer Kevin Harlan, the news of Percy Harvin‘s possible retirement “shook” Bills’ players on their flight to London and lingered through week. (Alex Marvez)

Patriots

Raiders

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie said he and HC Jack Del Rio previously discussed the possibility of him pursing the USC job should it become available before he was hired as Oakland’s head coach.

According to McKenzie, Del Rio assured him that he wouldn’t take the job if he was hired by the Raiders.

“We talked when we first came together–he wants to be the coach of the Oakland Raiders,” McKenzie told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News“His mind is not looking anywhere else… He’s sincere and I’m sincere with this. We don’t see that as an opportunity for him. He wants to be here. He’s going to do well here in Oakland, believe that.”

Redskins

John Keim of ESPN believes the Redskins will bring back at least one of Kirk Cousins or Colt McCoy next year, even if they only serve as a bridge to another young quarterback.

Both players are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents next year.

According to Keim, even if Washington elects to keep both Cousins and McCoy, he would still draft a quarterback.

Keim has spoken to people in the Redskins’ organization who have indicated that they won’t do anything regarding Cousins’ contract until he shows more consistency.
