NFL Notes: Bears, Browns, Chargers, Cowboys & Packers

 

Bears

  • The Bears are monitoring the waiver wire looking for help at wide receiver after the injury to second-year WR Marquess Wilson. (Jeff Dickerson)
  • WR Eric Weems looks like a lock to make the team after Wilson’s injury, and as result of his special teams value. (Jeff Dickerson)
  • CB Isaiah Frey left practice with a right hamstring injury.  He may face an uphill battle to make the team, with rookie Kyle Fuller and special teams standout Sherrick McManis both likely ahead of him for the reserve spots. (Jeff Dickerson)
  • T Jordan Mills left Tuesday’s practice with a foot injury.  The severity of the injury remains unknown. (Jeff Dickerson)

Browns

  • HC Mike Pettine had his defensive backs wear boxing gloves Tuesday to prevent them from holding, as officials are expected to call that tighter this year. (Pat McManamon)
  • While waiting for the league’s ruling regarding a possible suspension, WR Josh Gordon continues to prove he is the best player at Browns camp. (Pat McManamon)
  • Despite being listed behind CB Buster Skrine on the depth chart, CB Justin Gilbert is progressing at “warp speed.” (Pat McManamon)

Chargers

  • TE Antonio Gates returned to practice after missing three days to attend his sister’s funeral.  He is not expected to play in their first exhibition game Thursday, though Gates said he would be ready. (Eric D. Williams)
  • CB Brandon Flowers remained out of practice Tuesday.  He was seen with an ice pack on his left knee. (Eric D. Williams)

Cowboys

  • CB Morris Claiborne will miss the Cowboys first preseason game Thursday against San Diego as he recovers from a sore tendon in his right knee. (Rainer Sabin)
  • Head Coach Jason Garrett did note that Claiborne has had a good offseason and a good start to camp. (Rainer Sabin)

Packers
