NFL Notes: Bears, Browns, Cowboys

Bears

Bears HC John Fox explained their approach to offseason while adding: “[W]e’re not done by any stretch.

“Whether it was Jared Allen or Jon Bostic or whoever we have traded we are doing it technically get us better,” Fox said Sunday afternoon, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “You don’t do that if you don’t believe that is helping you. Anytime you make a trade you have guys you feel comfortable with on your team and we’re that way at tight end. We finished the season with Zach Miller after Marty went on IR and that’s the direction we’re going moving forward. And we’re not done by any stretch.

Browns

Browns HC Hue Jackson said referred to free agent QB Robert Griffin III, who recently visited with the team, a “very talented” performer.

“It was a great meeting. I think he’s obviously a tremendous talent and a great young man,” Jackson told Steve Wyche of NFL.com. “He had a lot of success early in Washington and then things just didn’t work out. Those things happen in the National Football League. But at the same time we are going through our process. We are going to be very diligent in what we are doing — trying to make sure that we put the right quarterbacks on our football team and in that quarterback room. And that’s one of my biggest responsibilities and also one of our organization’s biggest responsibilities.

Jackson wouldn’t, however, offer any details regarding trade talks with the 49ers regarding QB Colin Kaepernick.

I can’t comment on players on other teams,” Jackson said. “But it is where it is and eventually I think all those things will show itself.

Cowboys

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones was asked about their quiet approach to free agency to which he replied: “We’re not sticking our head in the sand.”

We’re not sticking our head in the sand,” Jones said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve got to improve our football team.

“The good, painful thing we earned in a big way is the fourth pick of the draft and the third pick in the second round and the fourth pick in the third round. We intend to really improve our football team that way and we need to.

“I mean, we have to be better. I just don’t think it’s an efficient way to improve your football team by overpaying free agents.”

On the subject of their reported interest in S Eric Weddle, who wound up signing on with the Ravens, Jones mentioned that they really weren’t that close to an agreement.

I guess you could say he’s high profile, but we weren’t close to the numbers he signed at,’‘ Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We weren’t.”

Jones added that he got the impression Weddle was interested in playing for them.
