NFL Notes: Bears, Browns, Falcons, Giants, & Texans

Bears

Browns

  • Browns OC John DeFilippo mentioned that they used rookie RB Duke Johnson as receiver yesterday. According to DeFilippo, this was part of their plan all along, but injuries at receiver forced them to Johnson at receiver more use. (Scott Petrak)
  • DeFilippo said that he doesn’t anticipate the team’s quarterback depth chart changing and added that Josh McCown has had a “good offseason.” (Scott Petrak)
  • First-round OL Cameron Erving is in the mix to be the team’s starting right tackle. (Nate Ulrich)

Falcons

Falcons WR Julio Jones says he has no plans to hold out for a new contract and instead plans on showing up for all of the team’s offseason workouts.

[Agent] Jimmy Sexton, he’s going to negotiate that with [general manager] Thomas [Dimitroff] and [Falcons owner] Mr. [Arthur] Blank,” Jones said, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. “That’s the side they handle. My side, I’ve got to handle on the football field. I’ve got to keep showing up every day and putting in work.

Giants

  • Giants WR Victor Cruz (patellar tear) mentioned that he “should be somewhere around 100 percent” by “late July, early August.” (New York Daily News)

Texans

Texans HC Bill O’Brien told reporters that veteran WR Nate Washington has impressed him during offseason workouts.

I would start with the veteran that we brought in, Nate Washington,” O’Brien said, via HoustonTexans.com“I think he’s had a good spring. He’s a guy that’s come in here and learned our offense. It’s not an easy offense to learn, but he’s obviously studied it, gone out there and made a connection with both quarterbacks. He works extremely hard. Good guy to have on the team. He has a lot of experience. I think after that I would be hard pressed to mention a name just because I think it’s very competitive. I think they’ve all worked extremely hard. I think that is, along with a lot of positions, that’s a very competitive position on our team. We’ve got guys who are working really hard, trying to learn the offense, trying to stay one step ahead of what we’re installing and things like that. It’s very competitive.”
