NFL Notes: Bears, Eagles, Jets, Texans, & Titans

Bears

  • Adam Schefter writes that with Jay Cutler and the Bears turning things around in a big way, it’s unlikely that they will lose enough games to be in position to draft a top quarterback next year.
  • Schefter still expects Bears OC Adam Gase to be one of the most sought-after head-coaching candidates next year.

Eagles

  • Eagles HC Chip Kelly indicated that QB Sam Bradford is in the second stage of the NFL’s concussion protocol.
  • The next stage for Bradford would be increased aerobic work and strength training, according to Zach Berman.
  • There five total stages with the fourth being non-contact football activity and the fifth being him returning to play and getting cleared by an independent neurologist. (Zach Berman)

Jets

  • Jets OC Chan Gailey said that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb surgery) looked good today: “He took snaps. He did everything.” (Manish Mehta)

Texans

  • John McClain reports that Brian Hoyer isn’t playing against the Jets because he suffered memory loss during Monday’s win over the Bengals.
  • McClain still expects Hoyer to return for their next game against the Saints.
  • According to Aaron Wilson, Hoyer’s concussion symptoms have improved daily.
  • ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that this is Hoyer’s third concussion since he began playing football. Hoyer had one in high school and one in college. (Tania Ganguli)

Titans

Adam Schefter spoke to one AFC South executive who expressed “displeasure and dismay” with the Titans’ decision to waive QB Charlies Whitehurst just after the news that the Colts were going to be without Andrew Luck for several weeks.

The Colts wound up claiming Whitehurst off waivers to backup Matt Hasselbeck.

An AFC South source texted Schefter: “Would rather have them turn to a guy that has never played before.”
