NFL Notes: Bears, Jets, Seahawks

Bears

Bears QB Mike Glennon said that first-round QB Mitch Trubisky has “done a great job” in offseason workouts and he plans to help him as much as he can.

“Mitch has done a great job,” Glennon told Pro Football Talk. “I’m going to help him out as much as I can, but at the same time my job is to get ready and win games for the Chicago Bears. Along the way I’m going to help him, I’m going to be a great teammate, but my mindset is to get myself ready as much as I can, and along the way if I can help him, that’s great.

Glennon added that he would be fine if the Bears’ coaching staff decides to give Trubisky some playing time while he’s still the starter.

“If it helps us move the chains and helps our offense out, that’s fine,” Glennon said.

Jets

  • Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News writes that it’s time for Jets owner Woody Johnson to give HC Todd Bowles a two-year contract extension.
  • The Jets have parted ways with several notable veterans this offseason as part of their plan to rebuild the foundation of the team in the draft and Mehta believes it makes sense for them to commit to Bowles through the 2020 season to see the process through.
  • As things stand right now, Bowles is entering a lame-duck season with the Jets.

Seahawks

While an ESPN report previously mentioned that there’s resentment of QB Russell Wilson from some members of the team’s defense, Michael Bennett mentioned during an appearance on “Brock and Salk” on 710 ESPN they couldn’t win a single game with Wilson.

“On a team with competitive people, there are going to be issues that are going to happen,” Bennett said, via ESPN.com. “There’s just a lot of alpha males running around, but everybody supports Russell Wilson. We can’t win a game without Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson is a top-five quarterback in the NFL. We cannot win a game without a guy like that.”

Bennett added that Wilson relates to members of the team simply by being himself.

Russell relates best to me by just being himself,” Bennett said. “I think as a human being, you accept the person for who they are. You don’t try to change them. You don’t make them who you want to make them, who you want them to be. A person that reveals themselves for who they are is who you accept them to be. Russell has revealed himself to me as a great person of great character, a person that gives back and a great leader. Also a great player.”
