NFL Notes: Bears, Packers, Panthers, Raiders & Texans

Bears

Bears HC John Fox was asked about the report that DC Vic Fangio could be replaced after this season (NFLTR) on Wednesday and said that he’s “proud” of the job his staff has done since taking over.

“I think our staff is tremendous,” Fox said, via the Chicago Tribune. “I think right now, if you flashback two years ago, this defense was 32nd in the league. Right now it is seventh. … I couldn’t be more proud of our staff. I’ll just leave it at I am very, very pleased with our staff.

Fox also stressed that he wants his whole staff back next year.

“I want our whole staff back,” Fox said. “Now whether that proves to be a reality or not, things happen. Guys get jobs, get head jobs, get chances to advance their careers. Like any of the projection stuff, I just stay away from it.

Fangio mentioned that Fox told him about the report himself and was nervous upon doing so.

When asked why Fox was nervous, Fangio said: “Because it wasn’t true and he thought I might take it the wrong way.

Packers

  • Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters that OLB Clay Matthews won’t practice today or tomorrow because of the separated left shoulder he’s dealing with: “He was extremely limited. The goal is to try to get some strength back in his shoulder.” (Rob Demovsky)
  • McCarthy added that QB Aaron Rodgers‘ hamstring remains an issue: “Aaron will be limited today, and then we’ll see where he is tomorrow. Probably very similar to what he did last week.” (Rob Demovsky)

Panthers

Raiders

  • The Raiders officially ruled out DT Stacy McGee and S Karl Joseph for Thursday night’s game against the Chiefs.

Texans

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Texans rookie WR Braxton Miller has been diagnosed with a shoulder sprain and is considered day-to-day. However, Miller still has a chance to play this week
