NFL Notes: Bengals, Broncos, Cowboys, Dolphins, & Steelers

Bengals

Bengals owner Mike Brown confirmed that they may end up using their franchise tag on WR A.J. Green, depending on how contract talks go over the next year.

“It’s a difficult test for us but we do have the fallback if we need to of using the franchise tag. So, that’s one option,” Brown said in an interview with Paul Dehner Jr. “Our problem is what you just said, the money is so big. We are going to have a finite cap room with a handful of players who are going to be eligible for free agency. We are going to have to see what we can get done with that. We don’t know yet where we are going to end up but we have tried to prepare ourselves for it some by holding back on cap expenditures this year which can be rolled over into next year. That will give us a little bit more potential to make deals.”

Broncos

Broncos president/GM John Elway said that there has been some recent talks about possibly of moving second-year CB Bradley Roby to free safety.

“He can tackle he’s tough and that safety has to be a cover guy there,” Elway said, via Mike Klis of the Denver Post. “There area lot of different combinations you need to play because the game is changing. Instead of having a strong safety, you want both of them to play center field.”

Cowboys

• Peter King of MMQB.com believes a six-game suspension for new Cowboys DE Greg Hardy would be “fair.”

Dolphins

• The Miami Dolphins have considered the idea of moving former No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan to outside linebacker on a full-time basis. (Omar Kelly)

Steelers

• Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said that they expected OLB Jason Worilds to receive offers they couldn’t match in free agency and they were prepared to move on without him. (Gerry Dulac)
• Colbert said they “kicked the tires” on some veteran cornerbacks in free agency, but they now plan to address the position in the draft. (Gerry Dulac)
• Colbert said their starting right outside linebacker position will be an “open competition” between Jarvis Jones and James Harrison. (Gerry Dulac)
