NFL Notes: Bengals, Browns, Cardinals, Chargers

Bengals

  • According to Jason La Canfora, it was not lost on some with the Browns during the team’s trade talks for Bengals QB A.J. McCarron that HC Hue Jackson could end up back in Cincinnati next year.

Browns

Browns HC Hue Jackson was asked if he thought the recent comments from WR Josh Gordon in which he said he’s played under the influence of alcohol or drugs “probably every game of my career” was him trying to talk his way out of Cleveland.

“I don’t think he is trying to do that,” said Jackson, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I do need to feel comfortable that he’s not. If he’s coming back to play football, he knows he needs to play football here. There’s no other place that he can do what he needs to do in the National Football League as far as playing.

“It’s right here. Let’s see where we are. Let’s have this conversation about him a few days from now after he’s been here and been in the building and we’ve had a chance to talk to him and see where he is and go from there.”

According to Jackson, Gordon’s comments won’t impact his standing with the team moving forward.

No, (it won’t change our feelings) because that’s something that’s gone on in the past,’‘ Jackson said. “He was cleansing himself of his past, and I get that a little bit. I want to see exactly where Josh is. We’ve talked on the phone, but we have not delved into the past. What we all have to do is respect his privacy. Obviously, he put a lot of things out there. I’ve not seen all of this.

“Again, that’s about the past. If it’s about the present, then that’s a different story for everybody, but we have to let him get out what he feels like he needs to get out. I’m sure this is part of his rehabilitation, as well, to be able to say certain things that you’ve done. That’s kind of good because you have to put it behind you as fast as you can.

Cardinals

  • According to Joel Corry, Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson has a “realistic shot” at earning some of the incentive money included in his contract this year.
  • Corry mentions that the first threshold for Peterson is 750 rushing yards, which would net him $150,000. This means that he’ll need another 355 yards rushing over the next 8 games.
