NFL Notes: Bengals, Browns, Giants, Ravens, & Redskins

Bengals

Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth explained that he would still like to remain in Cincinnati long-term, even after he expressed his frustration with the team earlier in the week.

“I think they know that I love this place and I want to be here, and they know what I am to this organization and I know what they are to me,” said Whitworth, via The Associated Press. “They’ve been great to me and my family. So there’s nothing but mutual appreciation there, there’s no doubt about that.

Browns

Browns OC John DeFilippo was very upbeat about what he’s seen from second-year QB Johnny Manziel this offseason.

“Johnny’s been great,” DeFilippo said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “He’s been fantastic. What he wants to talk about, before he stepped foot back in this building is his business. All I know is Johnny the football player, and he’s been awesome. He’s been working hard, very hard with myself and (quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell), and doing what we want him to do on the field.

According to DeFilippo, Manziel as been “nothing but a consummate professional” in offseason workouts.

“All I know is this: From the moment he stepped in this building from the last two weeks, he’s been nothing but a consummate professional,” DeFilippo said.  “He’s spent every hour that he’s been allowed to spend in this building. We give them worksheets every Tuesday and every Friday, and they’re done to the unbelievable detail that we need an NFL quarterback to do. From that standpoint, like I said I can’t predict the future, but all I can do is tell you right now Johnny Manziel is putting himself in a position to be a quarterback in the NFL.”

Giants

  • Ralph Vacchiano reports that the Giants have signed Southern Connecticut DT Carlif Taylor to a contract after he tried out for the team this weekend.

Ravens

  • Ravens HC John Harbaugh mentioned that undrafted DB Julian Wilson will remain with the team, even after he sustained a broken leg on Friday. (Jeff Zrebiec)

Redskins

  • The Redskins waived DB Courtney Bridget on Friday, according to the NFL transactions release.
