NFL Notes: Bengals, Browns, Lions, Packers, Ravens & Vikings

Bengals

  • OT Andrew Whitworth spoke apologetically about his comments earlier this week criticizing the Bengals front office for a perceived lack of effort in extending Whitworth’s contract. (Coley Harvey)  
  • Whitworth maintains that he wants to stay in Cincinnati, saying “I won’t play anywhere else. I’ll never put on another uniform other than a Cincinnati Bengal uniform.” (Coley Harvey)

Browns

  • Special Teams Coach Chris Tabor said that WR Travis Benjamin is the number one punt returner and that rookie RB Duke Johnson will likely be the kick returner. (Scott Petrak)
  • Tabor also said that the competition for the kicker position is “wide open.” (Scott Petrak)

Lions

  • The Lions had second-round pick RB Ameer Abdullah returning punts during their rookie camp. (Dave Birkett)

Packers

  • Head Coach Mike McCarthy said that there has been some discussion regarding camp invitee QB Blake Sims moving to a different position. (Rob Demovsky)

Ravens

  • The Ravens tried out Eastern Kentucky FB Channing Fugate, DB Khari Al-Mateen and DE Andre Monroe. (Aaron Wilson)
  • The Ravens also brought in S Gerald Bowman, LB Andrew Bose, CB Antoine Lewis and WR Andrew Opoku. (Aaron Wilson)

Vikings

  • Fourth-round pick OL T.J. Clemmings spent some time at guard in the Vikings rookie camp and could compete for a starting job there. (Chris Tomasson)
