NFL Notes: Bengals, Bucs, Chiefs & Eagles

Bengals

Buccaneers

  • Greg Auman expects the Buccaneers to carry four tight ends on their active roster, while TEs Tevin Westbrook, Kivon Cartwright and Alan Cross are vying for a spot on the team’s practice squad.

Chiefs

  • Second-year WR Chris Conley has earned playing time as an outside receiver during the Chiefs’ offseason program, with Albert Wilson taking the majority of his reps in the slot. (Terez A. Paylor)
  • Paylor notes that WR Rod Streater is another candidate that could play as an outside receiver.
  • Paylor suggests the Chiefs could eventually part ways with RBs Knile Davis and De’Anthony Thomas if fifth-round WR Tyreek Hill is able to succeed as a punt and kick return specialist.
  • As for the backup quarterback role, Paylor writes that fourth-year Tyler Bray, third-year Aaron Murray and fifth-round rookie Kevin Hogan are all competing for the No. 2 job.

Eagles

  • Jeff Kempski of the Philly Voice believes it is “extremely unlikely” that QB Sam Bradford will be on the Eagles in 2017.
  • Kempski notes that the Eagles could save $13 million from Bradford’s $22.5 million cap figure for 2017 by releasing him, or save $17 million by trading him.
  • Kempski also expects first-round QB Carson Wentz to receive a “ton” of action this preseason.
  • Kempski does not view RB Ryan Mathews as a good fit in HC Doug Pederson‘s system because of his poor catching ability.
