Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth, who’s looking for a new contract, posted an interesting Tweet on Wednesday before later deleting it.
“Mike Brown told me I’m done here,” the tweet from Whitworth’s account read, via Coley Harvey of ESPN.com. “Said I can play this year and go home. So I told him I want a raise or I’ll sit my ass at home this …”
According to Whitworth, the Tweet was meant to be a direct message to one of his teammates and was sent from his wife.
“Anybody that knows her knows she’s sarcastic,” Whitworth said. “She was just trying to be funny with the teammate.”
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones mentioned that free agent RB Chris Johnson is on their “short list” of potential running backs to add, but this isn’t something they’re considering right now.
“We haven’t visited with Chris, and we can’t talk about him because he’s a free agent. But right now we’re looking at the guys that we have on our roster,” Jones said, via DallasCowboys.com. “He is somebody that is on a short list of ours that we think could ultimately come in and do some good things for us if we asked him to. But I wouldn’t say it’s a priority right now.”
Jones instead said that they’re comfortable with the players they currently have and could look to get their No. 2 and No. 3 options more involved this season.
“At the end of the day this league, more and more, is becoming a league where teams use multiple running backs. Last year I think was inordinate, starting with the fact that DeMarco had an amazing season, an All-Pro season,” Jones said. “It very well could be that this year you’ll see a lot more of whatever three combinations of backs that we keep – you certainly could see a lot more of the second and third running back than you did last year.”
Jets GM Mike Maccagnan mentioned during an appearance on the The Michael Kay Show that they aren’t actively shopping DE Muhammad Wilkerson around the league.
“We’re not actively shopping Mo. It’s not part of our plans,” Maccagnan said, via ESPN New York. “But, again, his name comes up periodically at times, but nothing active right now.”
