NFL Notes: Bills, Broncos, Colts, Jets & Titans

Bills

  • The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday that they’ve hired Rob Boras as their new tight ends coach.

Broncos

  • Mike Klis reports that the Broncos are interviewing Brock Olivo for their special teams coordinator position.

Colts

  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that Colts owner Jim Irsay continues to consider what he should do with this team, which has created instability within the team.
  • Reports from this past weekend mentioned that Irsay reached out to Jon Gruden and Peyton Manning about running the Colts but neither was interested in taking the job.
  • Cole points out that this is the second year in a row that Irsay has reached to someone notable, given that he spoke to Saints HC Sean Payton last year.
  • This, of course, leaves HC Chuck Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson in an uneasy position regarding their future.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN reports there is no indication that Bears OLBs coach Clint Hurtt will join the Jets’ coaching staff although it was reported in recent weeks that he was taking the job.
  • According to Cimini, the Jets, in fact, looked into hiring Hurtt, but a contract agreement was never made.
  • Cimini predicts the Jets to release WR Brandon Marshall this offseason due to his age at 33-years old in March in addition to his “boisterous style” which “chafed teammates” and separated players in the locker room.

Titans

Titans GM Jon Robinson said he likes the team’s position in the 2017 NFL Draft with two first-round selections and that he could look to acquire extra picks once again this year.

Draft currency is a powerful thing in this league because it gives you a chance to acquire young talent,’’ Robinson said, via Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site. “They are less expensive players than guys who have played in the league six, seven or eight, nine or 10 years. So to be able to get two of those guys, or one of those guys if we trade, or three of those guys if we trade. … Whatever it is, draft picks are valuable currency as it relates to team building.

The most important thing is getting the pick right. You can have all the picks you want, but if you don’t get them right, then it doesn’t matter.”

Robinson went on to say that he would ideally like to gain a second-round pick in the draft.

I’d love to have a second-round pick,’’ Robinson said. “That is a sweet spot in the draft, those second-round picks. The first-round picks, it is good to have extras of those, too. You get an extra year on the contract, with a fifth-year option that you don’t get on the other rounds.

If we can navigate and put ourselves in a position to pick up an extra pick, specifically in the second round, we’ve love to do that.”
