NFL Notes: Bills, Cardinals, Giants, Saints

Bills

  • Joel Corry of CBS Sports notes that the Bills will have a $7.64 million salary cap charge in 2018 if they trade QB Tyrod Taylor next year and releasing him would result in an $8.64 million cap hit if they don’t use a post-June 1 designation.
  • Corry notes that Taylor’s $1 million guaranteed in 2018 will be offset from his next deal with another team.
  • Ian Rapoport said on NFL Total Access that a source within the Bills’ organization told him in September that the team is “not sold” on Taylor as their long-term quarterback and that they wanted to get a look at QB Nathan Peterman at some point.

Cardinals

  • Mike Jurecki writes that the Cardinals are “intrigued” with QB Blaine Gabbert and could view him as more than a just a bridge player.
  • Jurecki expects that Arizona will draft a quarterback “early” and they could allow Gabbert to start until the rookie is ready.

Giants

Giants HC Ben McAdoo said he had a “brutally honest” meeting with the entire team, where he pointed out numerous plays where it appeared players lacked the “desire” to perform.

We had some open conversations. Some hard talks. Some plain talks. Some simple talk,” said McAdoo, via Ralph Vacchiano of the SNY. “Played some film. We were brutally honest with each other. We’ll see how the players respond.”

Giants CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie added that he thinks it “would’ve helped” to have the meeting earlier in the season, but “at least it got done.”

“I think it would’ve helped to do it earlier,” said Rodgers-Cromartie. “But at least it got done.”

Saints

  • Field Yates reports that the Saints gave RB Jonathan Williams a $50,000 signing bonus to come to New Orleans.
  • Williams reportedly had interest from the Falcons too before the Saints signed him off of the Broncos’ practice squad.
