NFL Notes: Bills, Cardinals, Jaguars, Raiders

Bills

  • Jason La Canfora fully expects the Bills to make LT Cordy Glenn available for trade again this offseason.
  • While the Bills may also try to find a trade partner for QB Tyrod Taylor, La Canfora writes that teams may end up waiting until March for him to be available to sign, as the Bills are “highly unlikely” to pick up his $6 million roster bonus.

Cardinals

Cardinals GM Steve Keim explained that it’s important to be fluid when it comes to finding a quarterback in case your No. 1 option doesn’t work out.

“You have to have Plan A, B, C and D,” Keim said Friday on 98.7, via AzCardinals.com. “Whether that is a, addressing it with a free-agent quarterback, b, trade option, c, draft, or all of the above … but at the end of the day you can’t get caught on (Plan) ‘A’ because there are factors that go into decisions by a free-agent quarterback (or) any trade process that you can’t put your finger on.

“We just have to be prepared to move on to No. 2 or No. 3 and we can’t get caught flat-footed if the first opportunity doesn’t pan out.

Keim did say that they would get Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson involved in the process to pitch a veteran quarterback on coming to Arizona if needed.

“I don’t think it will per se affect the search part of it,” Keim said. “Now it will affect the recruitment part of it if in fact it’s through free agency. There is no doubt Larry Fitzgerald’s name and his reputation carries a lot of weight.

“We will, if we go down that path, certainly use Larry and David Johnson and all the other current stars on our roster to try to make sure any potential franchise quarterback understands that this is a special place.

Jaguars

  • Jason La Canfora writes that he wouldn’t rule out the Jaguars sniffing around on guys like Kirk Cousins this offseason.
  • However, he believes it’s more likely they land a top dollar backup like Josh McCown.
  • With this in mind, La Canfora expects Blake Bortles to return as the Jaguars’ starter.
  • Jacksonville could part ways with veteran TE Marcedes Lewis and RB Chris Ivory, according to La Canfora.

Raiders

Raiders QB Derek Carr mentioned during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Radio that WR Amari Cooper was playing “on one foot” last year.

He will never tell you, and he’ll never even talk about it, but that man was out there playing on one foot,” Carr said, via Pro Football Talk. “He’s out there just trying to battle for his teammates. A lot can be said about the way it didn’t work out, and stats and all those things, but the thing that I want to talk about is: I will roll with that guy any day of the week. He’s out there trying to give it his all, even though he could barely get out there and do it. That’s the kind of guy I want to play with. That’s how I know we’re going to be just fine.

“He would never say it to you, no one would ever say it to you, but I’ll say it to you to have his back. That man was out there playing as hard as he could and giving everything he could and, honestly, a lot of guys probably wouldn’t have even played with what he had going on. I commend him for what he was doing. We’re going to continue to work. We’re going to continue to do everything we need to do to be better, communicate, all those things, and going forward I’m pretty sure we’ll be just fine.
