Bills
Bills HC Sean McDermott told reporters on Tuesday that it is a “fair question” to ask whether they would have traded WR Sammy Watkins had they known Anquan Boldin was going to retire. However, McDermott added that the two moves are “separate entities.” (Mike Rodak)
McDermott also said that he expects LT Cordy Glenn and WR Jordan Matthews to play in the team’s season opener.
“Cordy is progressing, and he’ll be out on the field with the walk through going on. He’s progress, he’s moving forward, and you know, nothing has changed. We feel like we’re on schedule at this point,” McDermott said, via the Buffalo News. “Jordan you’ll see out there in the walk-through period a little bit, so he’s take a step forward today. He is on schedule, as is Cordy. You’ll see Jordan in a little bit more of activity that Cordy at this point.”
Cardinals
Cardinals RB David Johnson explained that he still has to go out there and produce this season before he really worry about a long-term extension.
“I still have a year,” Johnson said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “I can’t really look forward if I don’t have a good year this year. So I’m really more focused on this season, especially with what’s going on now in the present.
“[I’m] trying to get better now and trying to improve as much as I can, try to get better as much as I can for this season because if I have a bad season, there’s nothing to talk about next season. I’m so much more worried about what’s going on this season.”
Jets
- Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that there was a “faction of people” in the Jets’ front office that wanted to draft RB Alvin Kamara a few months ago and are still “miffed by their general manager’s relatively passive approach.“
- According to Mehta, these include important people in the organization, who wanted to make an aggressive play to draft Kamara. However, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan declined and ultimately elected to go with options her deemed to be safer.
Redskins
- Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Redskins C Spencer Long recently underwent a “minor” knee scope.
- Long is still expected to return to the team in the next two weeks or so.
