NFL Notes: Bills, Cardinals, Patriots, Redskins, & Steelers

Bills

  • The Toronto Group that includes Jon Bon Jovi has resubmitted their first-round bid to purchase the Bills. (John Kyrk)

Cardinals

  • Andre Ellington, Stepfan Taylor, and Jonathan Dwyer are the Cardinals top-three running back in that order.
  • First-round pick S Deone Bucannon is behind Tony Jefferson on the team’s depth chart.
  • Standout rookie WR John Brown is a third-stringer on the Cardinals unofficial depth chart.
  • Rookei QB Logan Thomas is the fourth-string quarterback
  • Paul Fanaika is the Cardinals starting right guard as of now.

Patriots

  • The Patriots are “quietly pleased” with veteran WR Brandon LaFell, despite the fact that he has struggled with inconsistency during practice.

Redskins

Jason La Canfora wonders if the Redskins could get more calls for QB Kirk Cousins some point during the 2014 season.

La Canfora mentions that there are front offices and coaches around the league that are fans of Cousins and the fact that he still has two years remaining on his rookie contract could also be appealing.

Washington reportedly wanted a second-round pick for Cousins last year, but the Browns offered them a mid-round selection, according to La Canfora.

La Canfora believes the Redskins would prefer to get “realistic value” rather than allow him to play out his contract and move on in free agency.

  • La Canfora mentions that “Washington’s defense continues to scare [him]” as they don’t appear to have the players in place to turn things around from last year.
  • La Canfora also believes the Redskins’ safety tandem of Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather could prove to be an issue for them in 2014.
