NFL Notes: Bills, Cowboys, Seahawks

Bills

  • Vic Carucci believes that senior vice president of football administration Jim Overdorf‘s future with the team hinges on how well he works with new GM Brandon Beane.
  • Carucci writes that it is “unlikely” that Overdorf lasts longer than this season in his present role, but could remain with the Bills in a different front office role.

Cowboys

Cowboys OC Scott Linehan said fourth-round WR Ryan Switzer will have a “significant” role despite having the usual slot WR Cole Beasley.

He’s a classic slot receiver,” said Linehan, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “He has a similar game [to Beasley], but he has his own things. We would really like those two guys to be able to complement each other and run real similar route trees. Certainly a huge bonus with him is his ability to be a returner in our special teams.”

Linehan added that Switzer “complements” Beasley and that the rookie provides depth at receiver.

His role is significant. You can see right now he’s getting reps that we wouldn’t have … if he wasn’t here. He complements Beasley and also gives us some big-time needed depth at that position.”

Seahawks

  • According to Jeremy Fowler, many around the NFL expect free agent QB Colin Kaepernick will end up with the Seahawks but the belief is that Seattle originally wanted to sign him for the veteran minimum.
